The Expanded Core Curriculum Program

 

 

What is ECCO?

ECCO (pronounced like echo) stands for Expanded Core Curriculum Opportunities. Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) are the following nine categories that need to be sequentially taught to learners who are visually impaired as they cannot learn them through observation:

  1. Compensatory
  2. Orientation & Mobility
  3. Social Interaction
  4. Independent Living
  5. Recreation & Leisure
  6. Sensory Efficiency
  7. Assistive Technology
  8. Career Education
  9. Self-Determination

All sessions will be held at the Lighthouse for the Blind: 10440 Trenton Avenue, St. Louis, 63132.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN ECCO?

Anyone with a visual impairment at least six years old and has not graduated from High School.

Parents are welcome to observe sessions.

*All students attending ECCO classes must be able to take care of personal needs independently.*

WHEN IS ECCO?

Age Group: 6-8 will participate in a 1-hour long session starting a 9:00 am.

Age Group: 9-high school graduation will be 2-hour sessions starting at 10:15 am.
