The Lighthouse is excited to announce an extension to our Braille Brilliance Program – The Braille Box!

The Braille Box is a quarterly subscription-style box offered at no cost to Missouri students who are legally blind. Each box features a different theme and includes an activity to improve daily living skills, a braille book, and a fun project for the student to complete independently or with family.
The inaugural box featured an indoor herb garden growing kit, tasty recipes to cook with the herbs, braille measuring cups and spoons, and a braille book on caring for and growing plants (a $60 value).
December’s theme is game night! The festive box will include braille board games for students to play with their families, snacks, and a merry cooking activity.
The Braille Box program will encourage braille literacy, address areas of an expanded core curriculum, and provide enrichment activities for school-age students (ages 5-21). The box is offered in Grade 1 (uncontracted) or Grade 2 (contracted) braille. The Braille Box is an evolving project. We ask families to provide feedback in the form of a survey after completing the box’s activities.
